Okay, okay. I know I'm wearing the tube top again already. But it was weirdly warm out tonight, all my 30 for 30 tees were in the laundry bin, and I was going out to eat at a famously humid wine place so ... what's a girl to do?

Tube top - H&M, cardigan - Target, jeans - French Connection. The necklace my mom got me for Christmas a couple of years ago but from where I can't remember ... hrm. It's all beaded, and I've only broken a few strands and spilled out all the beads on my chair. Only a few. Impressive, right?

30-for-30: Day 17

I think I'm finally okay with liking January Jones. Naturally, Mad Men has caused me to fall in love with many things (tailored suits, bright offices, impossible hourglass figures, red lipstick 24/7 ... oh, who am I kidding, I already liked those) but I hesitated with January because she seemed a little too Barbie for my taste. I loved Betty and all her craziness, but I wasn't sure where I stood with January. After brief glimpses of her in Love Actually and Pirate Radio, I wasn't convinced she was worthy of any attention and I worried she'd turn out to be another Gwyneth Fiasco for me (i.e. waaaayyyy too obsessed with herself). Then I caught her interview on The Daily Show yesterday and I was hooked. I can now worship her freely, no matter how slutty she randomly dresses for the red carpet. Go January!

Shirt - Forever 21, belt - Doubledutch Boutique, pants - Express

It's weird having my shirt tucked in - I'm not sure how I feel about that. We're at the half-way mark! Woo! This is usually the point on the treadmill when I start bribing myself with what I can eat if I just finish the workout ...

Shirt & pants - Express, belt - Doubledutch boutique, shoes - Nicole (I know, you can't see them - bad camera!), necklace - Target.

30-for-30: Day 14

Happy Valentine's Day! I had to go to the dentist. Apparently they get mad when you don't see them for 2 years. And did you know, in that time, they've invented a vibrating scraper hook??? (I do not know the names of any dental tools, and I don't think I should) The dreaded scraper hook is bad enough, but now a vibrating one? Dear god. Floss. Everyone. Please.

Cardigan - H&M, belt - Doubledutch Boutique, skirt - Skunk Funk, boots - Hive & Honey

No shoes for me since I have no plans to leave the house - ha! I can't get enough of all the remixers out there and their creative outfits! I think I need to step it up a notch in the week ahead! Oh man ... to wear red or not to wear red tomorrow .... (theme day!)

Cardigan - Target, Scarf - Azura, belt - Doubledutch Boutique, jeans - French Connection, t-shirt - H&M, socks - Kawaii Not.

30-for-30: Day 12

Day_12

Clearly my outfits aren't that adventurous on the weekends. But hey - this 30 for 30 stuff is making me get dressed on Saturdays, so that's something, right?

Even though I had a lovely brunch today with my dearest friend, it was not a stress-free Saturday. First, I think I lost 2 years off my life when I saw a taxi cab with a busted up/falling off fender parked right behind my car and assumed that it got that way because it had rammed into my car. Second, on the drive home in the opposite lane, I saw a cop running up to a car with his gun drawn and banging on the window, screaming for the people inside to get their hands up. Have you ever seen a cop running, screaming, pointing a gun, in real life? I haven't.

If I had had the hiccups at all today, they would've been scared out of my system for good. Whew.

Sweater - Express, Scarf - Rikka, jeans - French Connection, socks - Target, shoes - Kenneth Cole

Scenes from My Favorite Books: Part One

Over the next couple weeks, I'm going to be posting some drawings and comic pages that I've taken from my favorite books and movies. I've been wanting to do this for a long time, so I've got lots of ideas saved up! Part One: The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides

I took a couple of pages from the beginning of the book and translated them into a comic book version. These are just the pencil sketches to start, I'll post them again once I've done the inking!

30-for-30: Day 10

Day_10
Day_10

Today's outfit was oddly binding. I think it was the combination of a scarf (gift) shoved into a too-small corduroy blazer (H&M), with a belt (Doubledutch Boutique) on top, over a yellow oxford (which you can't see), a narrow jean skirt (Express) over tights (H&M), socks (Sock Dreams), and boots (Hive & Honey). Whew. It was a lot of layers, and though it's pretty cold and windy out, it mainly just made me feel very compartmented and squished. Not a lot of sudden movements happening in this outfit. No siree.

30-for-30: Day 9

It never fails. You wear something that could be considered wacky at work (like bright blue tights) and you end up having to go to a meeting with a bunch of khakis-and-polos-and-sneakers dudes. So you stroll in like an awkward, colorful Big Bird and hope they don't think you're a moron. Sigh.

You might've gotten away with it , too, if it wasn't for the fact that the last time you were called in to this meeting, you were wearing galoshes with skulls on them.

I got both this ruffly blazer and scarf at this GORGEOUS store in Rehoboth Beach called Azura. The shoes are from DSW, the tights from Target, skirt from H&M, and smile from my trip to the dentist yesterday.

30-for-30: Day 8

Day_8a
Day_8a

I had to go to the dentist today, which sucks regardless, but extra sucks because I have to take my lipstick off in order to go. In other words, I get drained of all my power. And then told I have a cavity. Oh, and that I grind my teeth, which is not good for "someone of my age". Boo. Luckily I didn't let the glare of the receptionist deter me from putting my lipstick back on as I was making my next appointment. You can wait, honey. This is important. Or, as Monk would say, "You'll thank me later."

Day_8b

Cardigan - Target, dress - Target, belt - Doubledutch Boutique, pants - Express, shoes - Nicole.

30-for-30: Day 6

Yes, I'm still wearing jeans. It's the weekend, okay?? I tried to shrink them, but I'm having the same problems. Oh well. I'll just limp along with this pair until the 30 days are up. It might be good for me - during the work week I go through jeans withdrawal and therefore oversaturate myself with jeans come the weekend (sometimes even delving into Canadian Tuxedo territory ... ack!)

Corduroy Blazer - H&M, jeans - French Connection, Nina Simone shirt - Etsy, shoes - Nicole, scarf - stolen from boyfriend.

Also, I got my copy of the new Urban Outfitters catalog in the mail. Lately the catalog seems to show clothes that would look good on absolutely no one (including the models featured), so I'm pretty quick to flip through. I did find this worth mentioning -- apparently the Grey Gardens look is in this spring ...

Finally I did come upon something that made me stop smirking - LOOK AT THESE TIGHTS!!

30-for-30: Day 5

If I didn't have to go to the grocery store, I probably wouldn't have changed out of my PJ's all day. Or my glasses. I'm pretty much a 4-eyed marshmallow on the weekends, what? Is that weird?

Sweater & necklace - Target, tube top - H&M, belt - Doubledutch Boutique (I don't know who the manufacturer, but that's where I got it!), jeans - French Connection, boots - Hive & Honey

30-for-30: Day 4

I just buried and tearfully said goodbye to one of my best pairs of jeans ever. And like any time you say goodbye to a dear friend, I'm having trouble coming up with a replacement for that big, empty, jeans-shaped hole in my life.

I found a pair at French Connection that I thought fit the part - medium teal color,  boot cut, no so low-rise as to be showing my crack - but now, after a few wears they've stretched out and have given me ... SAGGY BUTT. Saggy butt, droopy waist, plumber's crack when I bend over. Sigh. My friend swears that I have to find a pear of jeans that feels too tight and wear them around (when no one can see me, of course) for a month until they wear in to perfection. I kind of want to try this method, but it only works with pricey jeans. In my life, I've spent $80 on a pair of jeans, tops (not these ones). And my favorite in the world were the ones I just buried ... courtesy of Target.

For now, I'm going to try washing/drying these jeans and see what happens. Even if I decide to throw in the towel, I'll have to put off buying a new pair of anything until after the 30 days are up. ;)

Cardigan - H&M, stripey shirt - thrifted, jeans - French Connection, shoes - Nicole.

Sidenote: I don't really like what I did here.

Heart Comics

For those of you who are new to my blog, welcome! I've been transitioning it from a roller derby-only diary into one where I can post whatever I want, whenever I want! So one of my things is comic books - I write and draw a couple of comics that I update regularly on my site. There's one about college kids meddling with Greek Mythology called Gods & Undergrads, and one about a rollergirl and her day job called Bonnie N. Collide, Nine to Five. (More of my art can be found at the Eat Your Lipstick link to your right). So that's settled. I'll be mentioning when either comic is updated, like ... NOW! Click here to read the latest page of Gods & Undergrads.

30-for-30: Day 3

Normally I don't wear my hair down to work. Why? Well, the last time I did a woman said "Aw, look at Barbie over here!" to me. I guess it just gets in my way and makes me feel overly girly, but I'm trying to get over that. I think I've always had this idea I should strive to look like Portia Di Rossi circa Ally McBeal when I'm at work ...

Shirts - H&M, skirt - Express, boots - Hive & Honey. The kitty cat in the background - ASPCA. :)
